1. PENN STATE

Penn State is only in its fourth year of Division I hockey, yet already in the hunt for an NCAA tournament berth. Its freshmen were not expected to walk in and have a big impact on the team quite so early, but they have helped carry the Nittany Lions to the best season in program history. Currently at 18-8-4, the Nittany Lions are firmly on the bubble, as they vie for a spot in the NCAA tournament.
