Ohio State knocked off a higher seed in the opening game of the Big Ten hockey tournament, but it was hardly an upset.

The fifth-seeded Buckeyes beat fourth-seeded Penn State, 3-1, on Thursday at Joe Louis Arena. It was the fourth time in five meetings this season that OSU prevailed over the Nittany Lions.
