The season of Extreme Makeover: College Hockey Edition is nearly complete. The first episode aired on Sept. 17, 2010, when Penn State University announced an $88 million gift from Terry and Kim Pegula to add hockey as a Division I varsity sport.
The next episode was a game-changer for the college hockey world. On March 21, 2011, the Big Ten announced the establishment of men’s hockey as an official conference sport. With Penn State now in the ranks of NCAA Division I hockey, the Big Ten had the required six teams to create a college hockey conference.
