This game was close until the start of the third, when the Spartans held a 2-0 lead over Penn State. Neither team scored in the first, but Michigan State had the slight Corsi advantage in 5-on-5 play. Corsi close was very, very close for the teams, as Penn States Corsi close was 50.70 percent and Michigan States was 49.50 percent.

The Spartans scored first, but the Nittany Lions tied it in the second period. Six minutes later, the Spartans took the 2-1 lead. They added another goal in the third. After an off night, the Nittany Lions returned to their shot-attempting ways, and recorded a first-period 5-on-5 Corsi of 65.52 percent. Penn State dominated Corsi close, with a Corsi of 69.49 percent.
