The Nittany Lions responded later in the first thanks to a Max Gardiner goal, fed by Casey Bailey. The goal was Gardiners second on the season, and provided a big spark for a Penn State team that came out of the gate sloppy. The draw would not last long, as Eric Scheid put one through the five hole just 22 seconds later for a 2-1 lead and his seventh goal on the season.
