PennLive: Penn State hockey coach, players reflect on what Joe Battista meant to program

STATE COLLEGE — It wasn’t necessarily designed to be this way, Penn State men’s hockey players talking about moving on from the Joe Battista era at the same time it attempted to move on from a forgettable hockey weekend in which it lost a pair of contests.

The news that Battista, a longtime spearhead of Division-I hockey at Penn State and its current associate athletic director for Pegula Ice Arena and hockey development, was moving on to a position with Pegula Ice Arena funder Terry Pegula’s East Management Services Tuesday morning came as a surprise to many, players and coaches included.
